Recent Research

Williams CR, Burnell SM, Rogers M, Flies EJ, Baldock KL. Nature-Based Citizen Science as a Mechanism to Improve Human Health in Urban Areas.

NCH2 Perspectives

NCH2 readers seeking new ways to engage people with the outdoors may find this paper of interest. It explores how citizen science projects can be used to collect data on the benefits of nature to health, but also serve as a way to get people outdoors and connect them with nature.
Huynh LTM, Gasparatos A, Su J, Dam Lam R, Grant EI, Fukushi K. Linking the nonmaterial dimensions of human-nature relations and human well-being through cultural ecosystem services.
Nature influences health and well-being in many ways. To emphasize the feedback between human and natural systems, more studies examine these pathways using the concept of "ecosystem services". The authors of this paper conducted a systematic review to examine the myriad pathways by which the cultural components of ecosystem services improve health. See our blog post about this paper for more insights.
